Anything For You by Kristan Higgins

I have read other Kristan Higgins books before and she never fails to deliver a tooth achingly sweet, borderline fairytale book. Anything for You is no exception. Got to love a reliable author. This is the first of the Blue Heron series I have read and now I cannot wait to read the other characters stories. All of the other characters that are paired up in this book just seem so interesting and I want to know their stories too. But I guess I should just tell you about Jess and Conner.

To me, Jess and Conner have a story that is bittersweet. No matter how happy the ending, the journey to get to where they needed to be was a struggle. Jess lived a childhood of...adulthood. She had to grow up faster than any child should and it shows. Having two parents that are alcoholics, and a little brother with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome makes for a lot of responsibility. That's three people under her care starting at a young age. Her sense of responsibility, especially toward her brother, effects her ability to be with Conner. Which effects Conner. Conner grew up in a well-off family that has issues itself. Overall he turned out pretty normal. He's been in love with Jess since he was 12 years old and dealing with her ups and downs has taken its tole on his personal life. This book shows their struggle and it's beautiful.

When you're in the mood to have a glass of wine, sink into a bubble bath, and read a book that makes you feel warmth and fuzziness Anything for You or any other Kristan Higgins book is the book you need. Her stories are like happier versions of Nicholas Sparks books. I love it when you can tell an author cares about her books and the charaters in them. Kristan Higgins is one of those authors. That being said the book wasn't without flaw. It does have slow moments where it was harder to keep my attention focused on the book, and I think Conner was a little...less understanding than he could have been.

This is a first time author for me, and I always get so excited to read books from new authors. The reason I first wanted to read this book is because the description of the novel caught my attention. In short this book is about a woman named Imogene and a man named Cooper. Imogene is sarcastic, defensive, brash, and has been scorned by one too many men. In her mind, they're all the same these days. Forgettable. Cooper is a former FBI agent who is new in town and seems to have all the girls attention. Except it would seem the one he really wants is Imogene. Kind of typical huh?

 

You get the gist of it yeah? Well, to me this book was just OK. Nothing to write home about. It took me a little longer to read this book than normal because it couldn't keep my attention, it just got a little boring in places. I think the chemistry between Cooper and Imogene was also...mediocre. That's my way of nicely saying the sex scenes were a little boring. Some of the charaters, Imogene for example, just seemed immature and slightly annoying. That doesn't mean the book was bad. It was an OK read and I might try to read the rest of the Fearless series, I just don't think it's off the charts or anything. It had a good storyline, and it was sweet. I'm not ready to give up on the author just yet.

The Girl's Got Secrets by Linda Kage

"How many fake cocks did one pretend dude need?"

Linda Kage is a genius. The Forbidden Men series is pure greatness. When I first heard of this book I was a little worried because a girl pretending to be a man? Definitely going to be a horrible rip off of She's The Man. Oh...but I had faith in Linda Kage. I knew if anyone could pull it off it would be her. And pull it off she did! I loved it!

So why does a woman pretend to be a man you ask? Well it all starts when Remy goes to audition to be the new drummer in a popular local band called Non-Castro. Sounds female friendly right? Ha. No. They wouldn't even let her play. Hell, they barely let her speak. So she decided to try out as a man, rip off her mask, and be all HA IN YOUR FACE!!! The only problem is, she makes the band. So, she doesn't tell them she's a girl. At the first practice Gally, the bass player, see's her checking out Ashers (the lead singers) chest, and now everyone thinks Remy is not only a guy, but also gay. A gay guy instead of a girl. How nice huh? As a female I can assure you that even though in my opinion there is nothing wrong with being gay, I would not like to be mistaken for a gay man.



So that is just the basics of how this book gets started and I can honestly say I really enjoyed this book. It was funny as hell, sexy, the characters were awesome, Remy was sassy, and the book was super sweet and it was really engaging. So much so that I didn't even pay attention to Greys Anatomy...and I always pay attention to Greys. Always. George O'Malley apparently died while I was reading.



4.5 Stars. 
I would really recommend this book to Lyla Payne fans. If you like a good laugh, this is a good read. Next review Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole! Something to look forward to. I'm super excited to read it myself.
