Bad Boy Rockers Books 1-3 by Lexi Buchanan
So I will say that these three books are all...well, they were books. This is the first I've read of Lexi Buchanans books and I don't know where I stand on liking them or not right about now. I think that the storylines on all three books are good in theory but I seem to have a lot of issues with the books too. I wanted to like them, the descriptions on each book is what actually interested me. Normally I would never read a book series titled like this because seems super tacky to me and the books are normally just as tacky as the title. I can't decide weather I found these books incredibly annoying or if I might have actually liked them a little bit.
The most annoying thing that all three of these books have in common is how fast it all is for them to suddenly fall in love. You know those teenagers that start dating and a week later they're all "I love you so friggin much baby. Like, for real."? Well, that's how these books are. It's really annoying. I guess the third book is a little different because those two had known eachother for longer than the others. I liked the male characters for the most part but the female characters seemed annoying and whiney to me. Mara I liked though, she's the female protagonist in the third book.
Book 1 - 2 Stars
Book 2 - 2 Stars
Book 3 - 3 Stars
In all honesty, I just finished reading these books and I've already forgotten a hell of a lot about them. Including the name of the books and the names of most of the characters. That's not a good sign. Really good books tend to stay with you. Says a lot about this series. Huh. I guess this means I didn't really like them. Still confused though.

Corrupt by Penelope Douglas
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS. YES, YES, YES!!!!
Can I just say that I would love to have a personal Penelope Douglas to lock in my basement so that she could just write me books to read all the time? Yes, I know that sounds really creepy. I blame the book, it's put my mind in creepy mode. I feel like Penelope Douglas is just one of those authors that gets me. I've been reading her books since Bully and I have every intention to keep reading her books as they come out. Because she's a fucking genius. Her books never disappoint. READ THEM ALL!!! READ ALL THE PENELOPE DOUGLAS BOOKS!!!! MWAHAHAH!!!!! They are as addictive as crack.
The other thing about Penelope Douglas is she really knows how to write a good Grade-A asshole. If you don't like that kind of thing, this book is probably not for you. I don't think a single guy in this book isn't an ass in one way or the other. Trevor, is the bad kind of asshole. Michael however, is the good kind. Believe it or not, there is a difference. Trevor has bad intentions and a black soul. Michael has semi-bad intentions, but is good at heart. Do you understand what I'm saying here?
I also really liked Erika, although I refused to call her Rika. Person preference, I just think it sounds odd. She was a strong female protagonist with a spunky attitude and confidence out the ying-yang. I liked Kai too. I really do hope he ends up with his own book so that I can read more about him. The whole book was sexy, fun, and thrilling. I was really surprised by the end! Huge plot twist and I love me a good plot twist. I didn't even see it coming and that says a lot because it's very easy for me to see where a book is going and what is going to happen. I liked that the whole book was crazy and kind of twisted. I would however recommend that the audience to read this be mature because of the content.

Deal Breakers by Laura Lee
This Advanced Reading Copy was provided to me by the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
Deal Breakers starts out with two characters Riley and Devyn, Riley being the male and Devyn the female, and the book gives a few brief chapters on when they were in college together so we have an idea of what happened, how it happened, who went where, and so on. I would have really liked more on this time. I feel like it would really take the book to the next level if the readers could be able to further understand the strength of the bond Riley and Devyn had when they were in collegs even more. I did however like the charaters themselves. They were real people with real lifes. It's nice when you can feel like the charaters aren't perfect. My favorite character was Nathan! You just have to love a kid with a potty-mouth! Now that my friends, is real.
Overall I was left with a sense that the story could have been better developed. I feel like a lot got left out, especially in those college years. However the story was still enjoyable, and a good book to read when you have a few hours of down time. I love a good love triangle, so that made me super happy. What can I say? There are worse things than being adored by more that one man. Suck up the attention while you're still young and beautiful honey!

A Girls Guide to Moving on by Debbie Macomber
This Advanced Reading Copy was provided to me by the publishers in exchange for an honest review.
Debbie Macomber is a good author. A great author. My sole warning about reading her books is that you have to be aware of the fact that her material seems to be aimed toward an older audience. Not OLD, old. Just like the 30+ crowd. What with me being 19 that's older to me. I read it and enjoyed it but I grew up stealing books like this out of my mother bedroom. I've been reading Debbie Macomber since I was 13 years old.
The book itself was good, although I will admit I have read better by this author. But all authors have works that stand out more than the others to me so it's no big surprise that I would think something like that. One thing I will say is...Leanne annoyed me. You can't be all "poor me" all the time if you know he's cheating but you stay. At that point you're just bringing on yourself. I hate to blame her for her own pain but if you had just left him when you found out like Nichole does when she finds out her husband Jake cheated on her, that is a lot less years of misery and them you can't blame yourself. It's simple really.
Other than the massive amounts of self-loathing going on in the book it was alright. I wouldn't read it a second time but then again I rarely ever reread books.

All Broke Down by Cora Carmack
So previously I reviewed the first book in the Rusk University series and I really loved All Lined Up and it's characters. That being said that book sort of painted the male protagonist in this story in a bad light. He sounded like a douche bag. So me being me, that of course just made me curious. I'm a glutton for punishment. The bad boys are usually the ones that call to me. I'm THAT girl.
Silas is a frat boy with seemingly little regard for other people and their feelings. Or at least that's how he comes across. Have you ever seen Shrek? The first movie? Well, there is a chapter where Shrek is talking to Donkey about how ogres are like onions because they both have layers. Silas is like an onion too. All Broke Down shows us that under it all Silas has feelings. The man has layers.
Dylan is a new character that we did not meet in the last book but she takes it upon herself to peel back some of Silas' layers and take a little looksie. Dylan is a very...politically correct human being. Very big into protesting and doing things for the cause! Nothing wrong with that. I actually really liked her character. Silas and Dylan meet in a jail cell, hit it off, and I guess things just morphed from there.
The problem occurs when the two characters can't put aside the fact that they grew up differently and had totally different childhoods. The whole "being from two different worlds" thing comes into play. But you will just have to read it for yourself! I really recommend this series I am throughly enjoying it and can't wait to read more.

Anything For You by Kristan Higgins
An advanced readers copy was provided to me by the publishers in exchange for a honest review. This has in no was effected my rating on this book or the overall review.
I have read other Kristan Higgins books before and she never fails to deliver a tooth achingly sweet, borderline fairytale book. Anything for You is no exception. Got to love a reliable author. This is the first of the Blue Heron series I have read and now I cannot wait to read the other characters stories. All of the other characters that are paired up in this book just seem so interesting and I want to know their stories too. But I guess I should just tell you about Jess and Conner.
To me, Jess and Conner have a story that is bittersweet. No matter how happy the ending, the journey to get to where they needed to be was a struggle. Jess lived a childhood of...adulthood. She had to grow up faster than any child should and it shows. Having two parents that are alcoholics, and a little brother with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome makes for a lot of responsibility. That's three people under her care starting at a young age. Her sense of responsibility, especially toward her brother, effects her ability to be with Conner. Which effects Conner. Conner grew up in a well-off family that has issues itself. Overall he turned out pretty normal. He's been in love with Jess since he was 12 years old and dealing with her ups and downs has taken its tole on his personal life. This book shows their struggle and it's beautiful.
When you're in the mood to have a glass of wine, sink into a bubble bath, and read a book that makes you feel warmth and fuzziness Anything for You or any other Kristan Higgins book is the book you need. Her stories are like happier versions of Nicholas Sparks books. I love it when you can tell an author cares about her books and the charaters in them. Kristan Higgins is one of those authors. That being said the book wasn't without flaw. It does have slow moments where it was harder to keep my attention focused on the book, and I think Conner was a little...less understanding than he could have been.
4 Stars.

Faithful by S.A. Wolfe
An advanced readers copy was provided to me by the publishers in exchange for a honest review. This has in no was effected my rating on this book or the overall review.
This is a first time author for me, and I always get so excited to read books from new authors. The reason I first wanted to read this book is because the description of the novel caught my attention. In short this book is about a woman named Imogene and a man named Cooper. Imogene is sarcastic, defensive, brash, and has been scorned by one too many men. In her mind, they're all the same these days. Forgettable. Cooper is a former FBI agent who is new in town and seems to have all the girls attention. Except it would seem the one he really wants is Imogene. Kind of typical huh?
You get the gist of it yeah? Well, to me this book was just OK. Nothing to write home about. It took me a little longer to read this book than normal because it couldn't keep my attention, it just got a little boring in places. I think the chemistry between Cooper and Imogene was also...mediocre. That's my way of nicely saying the sex scenes were a little boring. Some of the charaters, Imogene for example, just seemed immature and slightly annoying. That doesn't mean the book was bad. It was an OK read and I might try to read the rest of the Fearless series, I just don't think it's off the charts or anything. It had a good storyline, and it was sweet. I'm not ready to give up on the author just yet.
2.5/3 Stars.

The Girl's Got Secrets by Linda Kage
"How many fake cocks did one pretend dude need?"
Linda Kage is a genius. The Forbidden Men series is pure greatness. When I first heard of this book I was a little worried because a girl pretending to be a man? Definitely going to be a horrible rip off of She's The Man. Oh...but I had faith in Linda Kage. I knew if anyone could pull it off it would be her. And pull it off she did! I loved it!
So why does a woman pretend to be a man you ask? Well it all starts when Remy goes to audition to be the new drummer in a popular local band called Non-Castro. Sounds female friendly right? Ha. No. They wouldn't even let her play. Hell, they barely let her speak. So she decided to try out as a man, rip off her mask, and be all HA IN YOUR FACE!!! The only problem is, she makes the band. So, she doesn't tell them she's a girl. At the first practice Gally, the bass player, see's her checking out Ashers (the lead singers) chest, and now everyone thinks Remy is not only a guy, but also gay. A gay guy instead of a girl. How nice huh? As a female I can assure you that even though in my opinion there is nothing wrong with being gay, I would not like to be mistaken for a gay man.
So that is just the basics of how this book gets started and I can honestly say I really enjoyed this book. It was funny as hell, sexy, the characters were awesome, Remy was sassy, and the book was super sweet and it was really engaging. So much so that I didn't even pay attention to Greys Anatomy...and I always pay attention to Greys. Always. George O'Malley apparently died while I was reading.
4.5 Stars.
I would really recommend this book to Lyla Payne fans. If you like a good laugh, this is a good read. Next review Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole! Something to look forward to. I'm super excited to read it myself.

Before You Go by Clare James
Have you ever noticed that if you read a book and in your head the male love interest has the same voice as John Mayer, everything is just so much better? Or even better picture the guy as John Mayer altogether.
I have a thing for the dark broody musicians. You know what they say about guys that play guitar right? Good with their hands. Noah the male protagonist in this book plays the guitar. Ooolala. Although the more broody character in this books is definitely Tabby in my opinion. Noah has some mysteriousness to him and I feel like we should have learned more about him by the end of the book. I still have a lot of questions. Then there is this whole thing with Tabby and her bad experience with being drugged and all the stuff she went through, so we definitely learn more about her then we do about Noah and I think that's why I wish we had read some of the book from his point of view. It is all from Tabbys POV and I have no problems with that normally...if I get a clear understanding of both charaters but I didn't get that from this book. The other thing is...there was no real high point of the book. I feel like it needed something bigger. It was a bit anticlimactic. I thought for sure Noah's ex would try to chop Tabby into tiny pieces and hide them under her bed or at least something! But nope. What actually does happen for the climax I find lackluster. Almost boring. No one wants a boring climax guys. Or a lackluster one at that. It's depressing.
There were things I liked about both charaters. I like that Tabby is a dancer. I use dance as an outlet too so I connected with her on that level. I found Noah's religious beliefs intriguing. All of them. Like, every religion he has. The actual story/plot is good. I just think there needs to be more to the story, more to Noah, and a better high point to the book. The book has been compared to Colleen Hoover and Tammara Webber, and I unfortunately cannot second that because I feel that this book is merely a shadow of something those two authors are capable of. I do feel the writing is similar to the style both authors use and with some work Clare James could get on their level. It's not far off she just need something more.

Unyielding series books 1 & 2 by Nashoda Rose
Perfeck Chaos starts off the Unyielding series with a bang by telling Georgie and Decks story. This book broke my heart over and over again only to turn around and put it all back together. The emotions that rage throughout this book gutted me, and comforted me at the same time because each charater in this book is so real you instinctively feel whatever they feel. It's fucking intense.
Georgie starts off in this book seeming like a depressed party-girl that hides her sadness with sarcasm, men, and booze. Eh-hem. Nothing wrong with that. I am here to tell you she is so much more than that. If you can read through this book without feeling some kind of empathy towards her, then I flat-out say you're a robot, possessed, or a sociopathic. You don't live through what she has without scars.
Deck is protecting Georgie with everything he has, trying to respect her dead brothers wishes for Deck not to be with Georgie, and keeping a secret from her that has the power to further break Georgie. Yes, he can sometimes be an asshole. Yes, he sometimes takes things too far. And hell yes, he is a dangerous man. But he and Georgie cancel out eachothers darkness and find light together. That's a beautiful thing. Kind of like how in math two negatives cancel eachother out. Or was it a negative and a positive that did that? Damn...I never was good at math.
I am honored to have read this book. I give it 4 Stars. Nashoda Rose is talented and from the short time we emailed I can also tell you that she is very nice, generous, and cares about her fans. An author that cares is the very best kind of author there can be.
Perfect Ruin picks up where Perfect Chaos leaves off, but this time it is Kai and Londons turn to tell their story. You meet both Kai and London in the first book of the series and even then you can tell that their story is going to be a rough one. That both these characters have lived through a lot. That they've lived through hell. Where Georgie and Decks book broke my heart in spots, this book shattered me. It was dark, it was the essence of sadness and anger, it was pure devastation. In a good way, I swear.
London is put through so much. She goes through the unthinkable. She is forced to become someone else, someone she doesn't even recognize, someone they call Raven. She survives. Then, once she is saved and once Kai has fixed her and taken her from being just a broken shell of herself to having a sparkle in her eye again...she is again put through hell. She is a survivor. She is Kai's braveheart.
Kia is pure resilience and calculation. Raised to be shut off to emotion, conditioned to be nothing more than a machine. A killer. Made by none other than his own mother. Something in London sparks the emotion and Kai. From then on she is his. He will stop at nothing to get her back.
In this book we finally meet Conner, who is Georgies brother and boy is it a doozey. We get a better understanding of the Vault and how it works, which is an organization you learn about in the first book. Another 4 Stars for this book. I would recommend this series, but you should get both books at the same time because even though the stories are about two different sets of charaters, they do need to be read together and in order.

Thicker Than Water by Brigid Kemmerer
Take a moment to appreciate this cover. Isn't it just perfect? That is what originally caught my eye about this book. It wasn't recommended to me in any way, I've never heard of it or its author. Just this cover is what made me curious. After reading the description I was further intrigued, so I decided to pick this book up and I was pleasantly surprised. This story is about two teens who end up smack dab in the middle of a murder investigation. Our male protagonist is the main suspect in the murder of his newlywed mom. Thomas was far from a murder and loved his mother dearly. That being said I got the impression he was the more positive character. Which...well, when everyone thinks you killed your own mom it should probably be the other way around...no? Would that NOT put a damper on things? I mean, the sadness was there but not very outwardly. To me Charlotte needed a happy pill sometimes. She didn't even have a valid excuse for her grumpy ways! Her character, although slightly annoying and ornery at times, was charming to me. She is from a family of cops so that makes things a little difficult for her and Thomas along the way. I feel her pain. Having cops in the family just means that if you get arrested you're parents know about it so much faster than normal....
Thomas is obviously my favorite character here. His sarcasm is on point, he doesn't take anyone's shit, and I feel like we would be good friends. He is pretty charming too! All while he's still grieving for his mothers death and the fact that everyone thinks he did it. And he's the cheery character! So here's the thing. There is no evidence against Thomas. Not a single thing. But hey! There hasn't been a murder in Garretts Mill in 20 years so...IT HAS TO BE THE NEW GUY!!!
Oh you just have to love small towns. Ms. Kemmerer nailed the small town atmosphere. The last murder that took place was Charlotte's friend Lilly, and that's what gets her asking questions. The two characters can't stay away from eachother, even though I'm pretty sure they annoy eachother endlessly. The point of views switching was executed perfectly, and I love when I can read what each charater is thinking. Then my favorite part...PLOT TWIST!!! I love me a good plot twist.
Thicker Than Water has all the mystery, thrill, and a side of romance anyone could ever ask for. With a dash of paranormal. A good book tastes like sweet, sweet victory. This book gets 4 Stars from me. A great YA. Fans of author Megan Miranda would devour this book in one sitting. I certainly did.

Atone by Beth Yarnall
There are not words for how captivating this book is. It's emotional and gripping. The story truly stays with you after you finish this book. Vera is one of the strongest, bravest, and most courageous characters I have read about to date and the more you find out about what she went through as this book goes on, the more respect you have for her. Beth Yarnall has not only written a romance that leaves you breathless, but she's called attention to a very real, very serious issue. Human sex trafficking is something that happens here in America as well as many other places in this world and as heartbreaking and blood-chilling as it is there are people that aren't even aware it's happening. This book may be a work of fiction, but the awareness it draws is real. Not only does it draw attention to that but Beau, the main male character, has also gone through the unthinkable. Wrongfully imprisoned for six years of his life, for a crime he never committed is a scar that will never fully heal. It happens people. Our justice system might work sufficiently but it is not without flaw. These two people find eachother, find safety and warmth with eachother, and be the best they can be for eachother. All while trying to find and save Vera's sister to save her from the same man that ruined the girl Vera once was, the same life that took her spirit and broke her. I felt sick on their behalf. I cried for this couple. I angered for them. The emotional roller-coaster was a rough ride.
This book is a beautiful thing. Truly a work of art. I can tell the author put thought and heart into every word, that it matters to her that the message of how Beau and Vera were effected by their mistreatments comes across as real so that maybe people think about it. My rating for this book is 5 Stars. The message of this book alone deserves that. The story was wonderful, the writing flawless, and the characters felt real. Fans of Law and Order: SVU this is a book for you.

Wicked Lust by Sawyer Bennett
Sawyer Bennett is an author very new to me, I had never even heard of the name but now I feel like I sure as hell should have. This author is very talented and I feel like I could easily become a big fan of hers! This book was sexy, fast paced, and addictive. I'm actually sad it's over. I'm even more saddened at the fact that I haven't read anything else by Sawyer Bennett, but I plan to rectify that. Wicked Lust is the second book in The Wicked Horse series. This book is Cain's story which involves him unknowingly entering a relationship with an undercover reporter. Sloane was first attracted to Cain while she was out with her friends at The Wicked Horse bar where they all go to dance, have fun, and where she goes to investigate a possible sex club. At first she was solely attracted to Cain and then she found out that he could have connections that she could use to further implicate a governor in a sex scandal involving this secret sex club that her publication office received a tip on from a former member. Little did Sloane know that once she explored a world with this particular man, she wouldn't want to leave. Her heart battles with her conscience as she furthers her relationship with Cain knowing very well that this may hurt her and him. I loved it! The storyline was great.
I could talk about how much I liked this book or all the things I liked about it all day but I'm going to list only three things and leave the rest to your imagination. I don't want to give the whole book away then you won't even read it!
Things I Liked:
1. The kink. I liked the kink but it's not just that I liked it but more the fact that I liked that the kink was done in a tasteful manner. It wasn't like Her Web Master (review here: http://pageturnerone.blogspot.com/2015/12/her-web-master-by-normandie-alleman.html) in which I felt the main female character was degraded and insulted. I felt she was more...empowered by her sexuality.
2. It really did remind me a lot of the Boundless Hearts series by Lora Leigh or the Sweet series by Maya Banks. I love both authors and both series.
3. I liked the characters and can't wait to read their stories. Mostly Bridger's.
The only complaint I really have of this book is the use of "Like", "Really", and "Totally" sometimes made me feel like the author was younger or newer to writing than what she is. In the end I would recommend this book to erotica readers, readers that like the kink and won't take offense to it. There is also some minor male on male action so if that would bother you...
My score is 4.5 Stars. I think Sawyer Bennett did a wonderful job on this book and I can't wait to read more.

Line of Scrimmage by Desiree Holt
FOOTBALL PLAYERS FOR DAAAYYYYYYYSSSS!!!!!
You know that relaxed and peaceful feeling you get after reading a fun, happy, flirty, feel-good book? Yup, I'm there. Nothing like a book that does that and combines it with a story about a drop-dead sexy football player. Can't help it. I have a weakness for jocks. It's the uniforms. The book was a pleasant surprise. I have never read anything by this author so going in I was expecting just an OK read to fill my spare time with. What I wasn't expecting was a book that held my interest, had a great storyline, some awesome characters, and was sexy too! But that sure as hell is was I got. I powered through this book in just a few hours laughing and giggling the whole way through. Desiree Holt must one witty gal because that's what shows in her writing. Erin and Jake are great characters and you really do feel their chemistry, the book really pulls you in right from the opening line. Well done Desiree Holt, well done!
This book is not without flaw, but the goods outweigh the bads by far. So the main male character is a little grumpy? He is laid up! Good reason to be a little grumpy! So the female main character is a little typical and too pessimistic about football players all because of one ex? That's not unheard-of. Plus, I'd be pissy if this Trace guy screwed me over too. The flaws are there but they're small and most of it is personal opinion. If there were any editing flaws I didn't catch them. Like I said the story is good, the characters are great, and the book is well put together. You can also tell that the author is a football fan because there were no mistakes made such as calling a touchdown, a home-run or anything like that. Thank you sweet baby Jesus! As a football fan myself that was important to me. The terms were all used correctly and it was much appreciated.
My overall score for this book is 4 Stars. I just enjoyed that this book made me smile and laugh. It made a good impression of the author and I will definitely look into some of her other books. I really do recommend reading this book. It fixes a bad mood like WD-40 fixes squeaky door hinges.
An advanced readers copy was provided to me by the publishers in exchange for a honest review. This has in no was effected my rating on this book or the overall review.
Perfect Lie by Teresa Mummert: SPOILERS!!!
So here is pretty much a summary of Perfect Lie. The book starts off with Trish and Lie going to a party as Lie trys to fit in with Trish and her crowd of douche bags. Lie meets Abel there, they smoke pot together, then they go play spin the bottle, Brock who is Lies supposed boyfriend gets brought up by Trish, and Abel kisses Trish instead of Lie when the bottle Lie spun lands on him. Lie gets all butthurt about it...after about 3 hours of knowing him tops...and what does she do?? Drugs!!! Pills to be exact. And guess what? She didn't even know what they were! But hey. If Trish does it...
Abel gets worried and has Lie stay the night in his room, then they go out for breakfast, Lie figures out Abel used to deal drugs, Abel invites himself over, and that's how Lie and Abel become friends. Trish and her merry band of douche dags talk Abel and Lie into going out, where shocker...Lie does more drugs because Trish did and they were offered. Abel takes her home and takes care of her blah blah blah poor Lie all helpless and needing saved.
One day Abel is over hanging out with Lie and somehow he and Trish end up setting up a date, then going out. At this point we notice the obvious feelings Lie and Abel have but Abel still thinks there is a Brock in the picture even though Lie was abandoned by this Brock guy somehow and so far that's all we know from Lies memories. After a few dates and over hearing Trish talking about something that once again hurts Lies feelings, Lie decides to barrow Skankzillas clothes and go out and get drunk and make more poor choices. Abel ditches his date and saves the day again. Lie stays with him, they hang out the next day, have a sexy scene on the couch that they actually don't even kiss in, Trish comes home, talks mild trash about Lie, then Abel goes with Trish to her room all while Lie pretends to be asleep. Abel tells Lie they didnt have sex. Abel and Lie fight. Abel then sleeps with Trish while Lie is in the next room. Which pissed me off to no end and I will explain why in a while.
After that things progress pretty much the same way, with Abel saving Lies ass after Lie tries to hook-up with a random dude at a party everyone's at, then Abel and Lie make up, we find out Brock is in prison, Abel parents are dead and that's why he won't go back home, and then Lie invites Abel to her see her therapist with her so she can tell him what happened. They're at the therapists office and she finally reveals that in Brocks messed-up way of trying to protect her he did a school shooting trying to kill all of Lies bullies. He told her to stay home but she didn't and she got shot.
Now for the real ending. It's a huge plot twist which I normally like but no. Not this time. You ready?? OK....here goes nothing...
THEY ARE ALL FUCKING DEAD!!!
She was actually killed in the shooting, she's in some weird afterlife place, and Abel knew the whole time that she was actually dead. Which brings me back to WHY EXACTLY DID HE HAVE TO SLEEP WITH TRISH THEN??? HE KNEW!!! HE KNEW SHE DIDNT KNOW SHE WAS DEAD YET AND IF HE COULD JUST LET HER FIGURE IT OUT THEN...POOF HAPPILY EVER AFTER!!!! BUT NOOOOOO. Turns out Brock shot her, then shot himself, and now she's dead. Abel and Lie figure their shit out, and after she visits Brock in dead person jail to tell him she forgives him, her and Abel are able to move forward with eachother.
The end.
All done.
That's how it ends.
Yup.
Pissed me right off.
So that is pretty much it, I think it's a pretty accurate summary. Small things that were unimportant or had nothing to do with the story I left out but honestly you didn't miss a thing.
Perfect Lie by Teresa Mummert
.....What in the hell did I just read???
I liked the first half of this book. Lie was an awkward character but her and Abel seemed ehhhh alright together. Nothing to write home about though because to me the chemistry between the two ran hot and cold. When I say cold I mean frigid. Not only that but Lies friend Trish pissed me off, and for some stupid reason Lie wanted to be like her. That just pissed me off even more because GROW A BACKBONE AND BE YOUR OWN DAMN PERSON!!! I mean, would it kill you to stand up for yourself? The story line was decent though, and I liked Abel. The main reason I even kept reading is because the author leaves a lot of questions unanswered until the end of the damn book and I'm too curious for my own good. So when I say I liked the first half of the book, I say it loosely.
After reading the first half of the book I thought maybe, just maybe...it has potential and I could really like it all depending on how the book ended, how the many unanswered questions were finally answered. Then the second half of this book happened and fit hit the shan. I loved Abel and I kind of liked Lie. OK so it was more like I tolerated her because I wanted to see where the story ended up going. But hey! The potential of me liking her character was there. She was just, as I have stated, too weak of a female lead for me and the second half of the book really highlighted that. In the past I have liked some relatively mindless female leads so I guess it's just the way she's such a pushover. Like someone could take her first born child and she still wouldn't have the spine to stand up for herself. The whole mystery of Brock was just there...he wasn't even a real character just a memory. The second half of the book was even more infuriating because Brock was not even a real character which is not the impression I was given from the reading the back of the book. When he still hadn't shown up or been discussed all that much in the last half of the book I was ready to just give up! The second half of the book you're left hanging about him and pretty much everything else. Everything was alright for a while, Abel and Lie tried to work some stuff out, blah blah blah, some other bullshit happened, the book was just OK and continued being OK, then BOOM BABY!!! The end happened and just screwed the whole book up for me and I hated it. Not that is was a great book to begin with but come on!!! IT HAD POTENTIAL UNTIL THE BOOK ENDED LIKE THAT!!! It's a personal preference but definitely could have had a better closing. This is coming from a girl that LOVES a good plot twist. Just not this one.
Half of the book I did like, half of the book I hated. Therefore my overall rating of this book is 2.5 out of 5 stars. Half the stars because I only liked half the book. Seems appropriate to me. If I were to recommend this book to anyone I'd probably have to say 15-17 year old girls. I think if I were still an angst filled hormone trap of a high school female I would have liked this book. Read at your own risk. The end still makes me so angry I wish I just didn't finish the story. As they say...curiosity killed the cat. If you would like to know how this book ended I will do a post with abundant spoilers soon. If you're curious to a fault such as myself, I want to save you the hassle of reading this book. After all...after reading a review like this, I would need to know how it ended myself. Don't let this review determine weather or not you read other Teresa Mummert because she is a good author, this book was just not my cup of tea.
